I love my tree ornaments, too. So many memories, and many were gifts I treasure. Good idea to thin them out over time! You could donate the little tree too. It could be just the thing for someone else.
I think you are correct in downsizing the xmas area, keep a few special ones as remembrance to scatter on a tree, decorations seem to multiply and get passed down, it’s a good feeling to cull them out. John

Especially when you're talking about the 400 or 500 bulbs that we had two years ago. Just too many.
